Plant Kawartha
Plant a Forest has recently changed it’s name! We’re now Plant Kawartha and have started a fund that builds on the legacy of the Canopy Project, a fund managed by the Community Foundation of Kawartha Lakes.
The aim of Plant Kawartha is:
- to promote and create opportunities to increase biodiversity in the region
- to support programs and projects aimed at protecting and preserving the environment for the benefit of the public
- to educate and enhance the public’s understanding of the environment,
- to be open to helping others starting their own biodiverse projects including planting initiatives.
We’re a volunteer-led community group and our mission is to increase the biodiversity in the settlement areas of the City of Kawartha Lakes.

- Scott Young Public School in Omemee has 17 new trees!On National Tree day, with the help of a grant from Trees Canada, Green Side Up Landscapers and some volunteers, we planted seventeen 50mm shade trees! And what beautiful day to plant native Maples, Burr Oak and Basswood. For the education piece, the trees will be used as a lesson in classrooms to show students the importance of land through Indigenous teachings. Students will also be ‘water wishing,’ where they will write their wishes on biodegradable paper, put it in water, and use that water on the trees.
