Scott Young Public School in Omemee has 17 new trees!
On National Tree day, with the help of a grant from Trees Canada, Green Side Up Landscapers and some volunteers, we planted seventeen 50mm shade trees! And what beautiful day to plant native Maples, Burr Oak and Basswood.
For the education piece, the trees will be used as a lesson in classrooms to show students the importance of land through Indigenous teachings. Students will also be ‘water wishing,’ where they will write their wishes on biodegradable paper, put it in water, and use that water on the trees.
Our goal over the years has been to do 2 planting per year. We are looking at other funding initiatives so we can get more trees into the ground. We’ll keep you posted!
